Powers Gold Label

The aroma is subtle, but has notes of apple, banana, buttery cookie, caramel, and a hint of smoke. Upon tasting, it opens with apple, malt, grass, butter, and smoke. The malt then starts to shine through a bit more in the middle. As it finishes, it becomes a bit more of a sweet alcohol taste with a more subtle caramel, malt, grass, and smoke. The mouthfeel is slightly lighter than Powers Irish Rye and very light compared to Powers John’s Lane, but it still has the mouth coating finish that the other Powers whiskey has. Overall, I think the Irish Rye is more flavorful for the same or chraper price, but Gold Label still is a whiskey I think is worth the price for an occasional buy.

A little bitter, burnt caramel. Ok but not special

Flaviar advent calendar day #16 forgot to take a picture, but the color on this was deep bright Amber. I don't think I've seen a whiskey this color before, it looked unnatural, though it does not taste that way! Nose: cinnamon, clove, orange zest, white pepper, caramel, and oak. The slightest hint of pot still shortbread Palate: sweet. Honey, grain whiskey, butterscotch. It is a tiny bit thin at parts. Very mild oak and a bit of stewed apple. A touch of milk chocolate? Strong vanilla throughout. Cinnamon and wood spice as it transitions to finish Finish: woody. A hint of malt, a bit of metallic astringency, slight honey.

Nose: Honeyed oak, shortbread buscuits, a hint of green apples, Bartlett pears, candied lemon peel, buttered toast drizzled with honey, a touch of butterscotch, some fresh caramel, a hint of toffee, green apple hard candies, a touch of rye and oak spice from the fresh ex bourbon casks, dusty Canadian grain note, vanilla icing, a hint of floral (lilac) and vanilla infused sandalwood, a hint of green and sweet sapiness/vegetal note, some red berries (cranberries, strawberries, raspberries), spearmint infused cream, slight tar and char note, white chocolate Palate: Toast covered in treacle, white pepper, green apple flavoured hard candies, strawberry hard candies, chalky powdered sugar, limoncello (Italian lemon liquor), fresh caramel, old oak, a touch of spearmint snd cream, bittersweet cocoa, rye spice, a touch of cinnamon, sweet green herbal note, honey covered apple slices Finish: A touch of white pepper, some sweet oakiness, apple skins, white chocolate and remnants of honey covered orchard fruits
