Reviewed October 10, 2022the quarter horse wheated appears to be a brand new product as of fall 2022. i purchased it with little info online and no reviews mostly because the quarter horse reserve delivered a far above average value and excellent flavor profile in my experience so far. - it's pretty solid for a 2-year wheater* - the closest product i can think of to compare this to is weller special reserve (WSR). while WSR is older, a bit more complex and smoother, it's also very hard to find on a shelf these days. the WSR mashbill is the BT wheated mashbill which is corn, wheat, and malted barley (undisclosed percentages) while the QHW mashbill is 70% corn, 21% winter wheat, 9% malted barley. - nose: light oak, ethanol. - palate: sweet oak, light brown sugar, on the spicy side for a wheater (in a good way), it's sweet but not boring nor overwhelming quintessential bourbon, the body is on the thin side. - finish: short, hint of cocoa. - not quite as good as quarter horse reserve, which is an incredible product in the $30 range my ratings of similar products for comparison: - quarter horse wheated (QHW): 3.5–3.75/5.0 - weller special reserve (WSR): 3.75–4.0/5.0 - bernheim 7 year wheat whiskey: 3.75–4.0/5.0 - quarter horse reserve: 4.0/5.0 - old weller antique (OWA): 4.25/5.0 price: $27 / 750 ml *i'm not sure that there are actually any other 2 years on the market. but this will be very interesting to follow as it matures to the 4–6+ years age range. -

Reviewed September 10, 2022 (edited October 10, 2022)Not particularly volatile, the smell is somewhat floral with caramel notes. Taste and mouthfeel is very thin. Flavor is mild and short-lived. You get a little brown sugar and oak but no interesting flavors to speak of. That said, it does seem fairly sweet. All in all, for under $30, it’s a suitable option for mixing.26.0 USD per BottlePanama City Beach
