The nose is beautiful - bright overtones of risen rye dough and baking spices, layered over warm toffee and vanilla.
The bright rye spice leads the flavours on the palate, but fades quite quickly into smooth, darker notes, almost bourbon-like.
The finish is a little peppery, moving into dry oak.
Overall a nice sipper with a splash of water, and makes a killer old fashioned. Could be a good introduction to rye if you like the higher rye bourbons like Bulliet or Four Roses.
Bought for £38 from Amazon UK (about $50 US), which i think is a fair price for the quality. I wouldn’t want to pay any more though.
The three year old (non bottled-in-bond) version is also very good if you prefer a lower proof.
