Ron Barcelo uses 100% Dominican sugar cane juice for their distillation. Their hot, humid environs produce rapid aging results, which they complete almost entirely in used American bourbon barrels. In between uses, they scrape and re-char those barrels to always impart their desired flavor qualities. The Gran Añejo includes a blend of rums aged up to six years. This is sold at 40% abv in the US, but this review was done with the 37.5% abv bottling sold elsewhere.
Aged RumRum that is aged, but no specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for length of aging, but will often carry an age statement (which should be taken with a grain of salt). Often thought of as "sipping rums".

"The nose offers dried fruits, grass, sugar cane, butterscotch and brown sugar, with fainter hints of smoke and tobacco. The palate moves into heavier earthy flavors, with more sugar cane alongside palm sugar, and vegetal and hogo flavors. A short, funky finish closes out with molasses, roast, toffee and brown sugar."
