Nose: brown sugar and maple syrup. Slight scent of dry erase markers, not a bad thing I guess.
Mouthfeel: light, not a lot of heat for a 100 proof whiskey.
Taste: spicy, biting alcohol. A light campfire smoke from the barrel but more woody than smoke, sawdust, like burning green wood on an early summer campfire. This whiskey tastes like a backwoods camping expedition.
Overall:
I really like this whiskey. It’s not the type of bourbon I would usually gravitate to, it’s a little more delicate and subtle. However, I can’t help but think that this whiskey is just more honest than other tastes. You don’t need a refined palate to appreciate it. It makes me think of an early blue collar logging camp. It doesn’t matter if this whiskey barely has a elementary education, because it has life experience.
