Royal Canadian is described as a "small batch" whisky. A product of the Sazerac Company, this whisky is blended from barrels selected by Buffalo Trace's master blender from among 200,000 barrels the company has acquired. Although it carries no age statement, Canadian law requires that Canadian whiskies be aged a minimum of three years.

DISTILLED IN CANADA AND AGED IN BARRELS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS; OFTEN (BUT NOT ALWAYS) CANADIAN WHISKIES ARE BLENDS OF CORN, BARLEY, AND RYE WHISKIES WHICH WERE DISTILLED AND MATURED SEPARATELY. TRADITIONALLY, CANADIAN WHISKEY IS CALLED “RYE”, ALTHOUGH NO MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF RYE-GRAIN WHISKY IS REQUIRED IN A BLEND.

Tasting Notes

"Royal Canadian presents a nose of vanilla, oak, and caramel. These notes carry through to the taste, along with nutty and toffee flavors. The sweetening influence of oak barrels seems to take prominence over the grains used in distillation. This is a smooth whisky, but not the flabby sort of blended whisky often associated with the category. It's a step up from the usual Canadian whisky and makes a nice casual sipper. "
