Saint James Cuvée 1765 celebrates 250 years of the distillery's rhum agricole production on Martinique. The fresh pressed juice used to make it is grown within the Rhum Agricole AOC in the fields of Saint-Marie. This anniversary blend was created by master blender Myriam Bredas and oenologist Marc Sassier, who selected six vintages that come together to approximate the flavors of the distillery's original rum style, aged in a combination of French or American Oak barrels. The heavy glass bottle design and shape is a throwback to an age when the rum had to endure long sea voyages and could be stored efficiently in the holds of the ships to maximize space.
Rhum Agricole VieuxRhum distilled from fresh sugarcane juice that has been aged in oak in barrels not to exceed 650 liters. In Martinique, aging requirements are at least 3 years for a VO designation, 4 years for VSOP, 6 for XO, and at least 6 for vintage rhums. Hors d'age is aged between 8-12 years.
"This is a very atypical style and flavor of rhum agricole, with more of the tart and coffee roast flavors taking center stage. A faint butterscotch sweetness comes in at the mid-palate then fades into a long, smooth and dry finish. A touch of tobacco smoke and herbaceousness hits with additional sips of this clean, elegant rum."
