Sassicaia

Reviewed April 28, 2026I'm celebrating a bit tonight and decided to open my final Poli tasting bottle, the legendary Sassicaia. On the nose it is instantly floral, with cherry blossom, pear, and delicate white wine notes. On the palate it brings tremendous complexity. Flower bouquets, sweet peaches, peppercorns and some salty, mushroom umami. The finish then morphs into a robust oak aged red wine, with a beautiful balance of sweet and sour tannins. Contrasting this with the also fantastic due barili is interesting in that it makes that one taste quite sweet. The price on this is justified as it's a very complex and thought provoking dram.
