Smooth Ambler Contradiction Rye
This is the first line extension for Smooth Ambler's Contradiction line since its bourbon launch in 2015. Like that product, it is a blend of the distillery's own liquid, as well as sourced whiskey.
In this case, it's four rye whiskies: two from Tennessee (51% rye and 70% rye), one from MGP (95% rye), and one homemade rye whiskey (88% rye) from Smooth Ambler distillery in West Virginia. It is bottled at 105 proof and available as of August, 2021.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The nose has that classic spice cabinet aroma of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice and hints of pinecone, along with stewed apple. The palate has more of a rye grain "green-ness" with herbal notes of mint and tarragon mixing with toasted seeded rye bread and earthy, slightly floral green tea. Some dried cherry, apple and raisin mix in to the midpalate, along with with bittersweet chocolate and toasted oak. The finish has a good burn to it, carrying off those tart fruit, spice and chocolate notes. "
