Strathisla 12 Year
Strathisla // Speyside, Scotland
This is a 12-year old whisky distilled at one of the oldest Speyside distilleries still in operation. Founded by George Taylor in 1786 it was originally named Milltown Distillery. This malt is finished in ex-sherry barrels and recently (2013) had its packaging revamped. The single malt is released in limited quantities as it is the backbone of the Chivas Brothers blended whisky portfolio.
Single MaltDistilled in pot stills from 100% malted barley, produced at one distillery, aged in barrels; if Scotch or Irish, must be aged for at least three years.
"The nose is fruity and sherried with a pretty decent body. Notes of red wine, poached pears, and spiced green apple pie follow on the palate. There’s a very significant amount of toffee throughout, perhaps a little too much. "
