Nose: Very oaky, wood varnish, a touch of fresh pineapple.
Palate: Soft body and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Loads of sweet yellow tropical fruit like mango and pineapple, and golden raisins.
Finish: Turns woody with gentle baking spices developing, but then trails off and ends up dry with cinnamon being the final flavour.
Tasting Methodology: Neat in a Canadian Glencarin glass. Rested 10 minutes.
Nose: ripe red apples, pears
Mouthfeel: neutral (water)
Palate: apple peels, citrus vanilla
Finish: hint of spice. peppery
Rating: 8/10
Price paid: $80
Overall Notes: Smooth while retaining apple notes (vs the mellower Glenfiddich 15)
Would I get again? It’s a tossup between this and Glenfiddich 15 (exceptionally mellow/smooth). This has a hit more character (apple and peppery) - but I would still choose Glennfiddich 15 just for the smooth mellow reference.
