Kraken Black Spiced Rum Original

Admittedly I’m new to the rum scene. Usually a whiskey/bourbon/scotch guy. Was looking to try something new. I read a lot of reviews and it seems people either love or hate this rum. I was feeling adventurous and decided to give Kraken a try. First attempt was on the rocks. It was decent. Good flavor, not over-powering, and enjoyed the complexity of the different flavors. Second attempt was on the rocks with some Torani Toasted Marshmallow syrup. Amazing!!! The syrup just seems to bring everything together a little better. I can see this as being a great mixer but maybe not that great as a neat or rocks drink.

This seems to be a polarizing spirit as folks seem to either like it or hate it. Aroma: Dark cola, vanilla, & molasses. Flavors: Sugarcane, molasses, spice. Has a syrupy sweetness. While not bad as a sipper (in my opinion) it goes best as a mixer. Rating is based on neat sipping.

Certainly glad I purchased this in a 50 ml bottle. It would’ve hurt my feelings to have poured out a larger quantity. May be fine for mixed drinks, but absolutely a hard pass neat.
