Nose- Can tell it is high proof. Sweet, sugary notes of vanilla and oak. Some brown sugar and slight caramel.
Palate- starts sweet and almost fruity and transitions to caramel and almost a burnt sugar and cinnamon notes.
Finish-Spicy finish where the high proof burns the tongue as it lingers. After notes of slightly burnt sugar and caramel.
Overall- for a high proofed whiskey it is fairly smooth. It does linger longer than lower proof whiskey, but the expected “burn” is more spicy than an actual burn. The spice overpowers the slight fruitiness at the start and any other flavors though. Not an everyday drinker, but a fun addition to any collection and a conversation piece because of the high proof.
