Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon

Sweet and creamy nose. Light butterscotch hints. (Neat) Across the tongue is just sweet sweet toffee and vanilla, until you pull it to the back of the mouth then a huge flash of minty menthol. Lingering spice, but more nasal than cheek burn. After, some banana lingering with the iodine after-effects of the heat flash. Good, but a little mint-centric versus other flavor profiles that I prefer. Excellent value for the money, however ($40), and the longer I sip after the palate has adjusted the more sweet brown sugar I taste, with less spice. It's good, folks.

Rare Breed was the third Wild Turkey product i tried but the first one I purchased that left me wanting more. The proof on this one clocks in at 58.4% abv and packs a punch. If you’re new to drinking whisky and want to ween off mixing drinks, start with WT 81, reduce to only ice cubes only with WT 101 and if you can handle a lil more bark, drink Rare Breed neat. A little goes a long way with this one.
