Bottled at 100 Proof and a 100% Rye mash, you’d expect this bottle to be rich with spice and bite, but it’s elegantly done the spice is forward but become delicate in the finish with very rich notes of vanilla on the mid-palate and finish.
Aromatics—most notably vanilla—esque accompanied by spices undefined.
Taste—the front is loaded with spice for me, it was reminiscent of cinnamon, which quickly dissolves into a rich mid-pallet and finish of vanilla (heavy) and caramel notes. There’s a slight hold of spice on the finish but it isn’t as noticeable and forward as the vanilla.
This is a really great dram even at $60-70 that is guaranteed to impress even straight bourbon/American whiskey drinkers, Whistle Pig will forever be a staple bottle in my “daily” drinkers.
