Dewar's 18 Year The Vintage

I received a bottle of 12/15/18 for Xmas and after reviewing (and enjoying) the 12/15 tonight we tuck into the most senior of the bunch.
The nose is much more decadent then expected, aromas of fresh bread and cherries, followed quickly by citrus zest and malted cereal and baking spices. It really is Christmas dessert in a glass.
The palate does not deliver the sweetness that I was expecting from the nose, instead offering up more of the grain up front, then quickly changing to bittersweet baking chocolate and then rolls into vanilla with a few of those spices from the nose showing up. Rather thin and somewhat flat.
Not much of a finish, in fact not really even sure there’s enough to mention one.
A little disappointed in the palate after such a great nose. After trying the 3 expressions in a row, it seems the added years in the barrel have mellowed things out a little too much for my liking. The 12 and the 15 were just lively enough to make them a bit more interesting, but since this was a gift, it will absolutely be enjoyed.

@rawalker ha ha maybe I should...I do have the Caribbean smooth though and that is a good band for the 23 dollars it was! haven't tried the Portugese smooth though...
@Grumpious - nice tasting. I won't go rush to buy a bottle. would like to try it sometime for sure though. The 12 was definitely inferior to Monkey Shoulder and Naked Grouse. Maybe @robwalker can buy a bottle so I can try it when I come visit once restrictions are lifted!
@rawalker I am pleased to share that today I finally decided to snag a bottle of the dewars 21 and review is posted. It’s good but not great, and given the size of bottle I would pick something else
@rawalker no I haven’t tried it yet but I think I’ve seen it around here. Adding it to my list with the Caribbean smooth and will see if I can track it down this week. Stay tuned! 🥴
Have you had the 21? I believe it showed up on the Whisky Advocate top 20 of the year list and I've eyed it at the BC liquor stores for its very reasonable price for a 21 year old whisky...
The twelve is quite tasty and a bargain to boot. I can find it for as low as $20 down here.
