Weller 12 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

I keep writing that I’m not a big bourbon fan but the more I taste the more I realize that it’s a certain profile of bourbon that I don’t care for. Specifically, the creamy, corn-heavy variety, which I associate most often with Four Roses. What I do like in bourbon is the darker, richer flavors, and they’re here in plenty: caramel, ginger snaps, brown sugar, oak tannin. My sample was perhaps a little too spicy mid-palate, but the caramel on the finish wraps it up nicely.

@dhsilv2 & @Richard-ModernDrinking - sounds about right!!! I have 2 in my whiskey closet bought at a not unreasonable price but a good bit higher than the first bottle I ever tried, to be sure. Even the regular Special Reserve is over twice it's price from just a year ago. The last 3 times the PA State stores sent out a Weller e-mail I missed out on getting anything in the cart before it evap-ed from inventory. And I responded well within 10 minutes each damn time! Strictly first come, first served. The 100 bottles in Fall of '20 were 45 minutes up the highway for me and no way to secure anything online so I just sat and watched the inventory count dwindle down in less time than it would take me to drive there
@dhsilv2 @clarkebar I think that’s true everywhere. And when you do see it on a shelf, it’s marked up to a silly price.
@Clarkebar it's a lottery bottle in ohio. Last time they had an in person lottery the location was so swarmed by people they called the firemarshall. Of course he was with everyone else trying to get a bottle.
We can't keep the stuff in PA. The State stores sell out so fast the bottles never get dust. 100 bottles moved in 2 hours from one store in Central PA just last Fall.
