Lux Row Distillery has a history of bringing back the past. Like their Flagship Bourbon Blood Oath they have created magic again with their Daviess County Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This 96 proof offering brings back a heritage dating back to 1874. Daviss County Distillery paved the way for over a dozen other distilleries opening in Daviess County, Kentucky before Prohibition. Lux Row is honoring this rich history by reintroducing the unique blend used in the original bourbon. Two mashbills make up this rather tasty offering. To bring the smooth and the sweet they use a wheated mashbill, and to bring the spice they use a rye mashbill. Combined they bring a quite interesting taste from the past into your glass.
Nose: The nose is mild and has a nice earthy sweet corn, cinnamon, and a hint of orange zest at the end.
Pallet: The cinnamon is nice and warm up front leading to the smooth mild spice of rye and Honey. It is just oily enough for the flavors to grab the tongue and be a constant reminder of what you just experienced.
The Finish is nice and sweet tapering off to a mild cigar smoke.
If the 96 proof hits you a little hard just add a few drops of water and the nose becomes softer and the pallet less oily and even smoother. Try it both ways and find which you prefer.
