Banana, green apple, artificial banana on the nose. Plenty of caramel.
Pleasant oily mouthfeel. Lots of grain - a mix of fresh grain and toasted grain. Dry barley crackers. Nutty and cracking fresh barley.
Long nutty, barley finish. Some real spice, black pepper and cloves. Quite oily in the finish. Perhaps a little salt?
I'm not a big fan of Irish whiskey. I really like the individual flavors of this, but it doesn't quite come together for me. It feels like a random assemblage of interesting flavors more than a cohesive whole.
I don't dislike it, but I'd grab a medium-priced single malt scotch over this 95% of the time. Still, it's an interesting diversion from my regular whiskey diet. If it were quite a bit cheaper, I'd drink it more often.
I do appreciate the strong fresh barley notes, and the oiliness is definitely pleasant, but I wish that the flavors were harmonious.
