The nose is heavy but complex. It presents with peat and smoke upfront, with the scent of burnt sugar lingering in the background. There is a briny scent beneath the peat that plays together into just the barest hint of herbal notes.
The taste begins with a shocking sweetness of stone fruit and a light lemon finish. There is an undercurrent of peat throughout the duration of the taste. The whisky has a slightly oily mouthfeel, and late in the finish the lemon, brine, and peat play together in a bitter aftertaste. Refreshing your palate with a bit of water brings out the burnt sugar and stone fruit sweetness again. In the end, the spirit settles into a warm glow in your chest.
Marvelously complex and with a surprising sweetness, this drink should not be adulterated by mixing or dilution. A wonderful experience.
