This is unique but familiar at the same time. The reviews that call this out as being a blend of Ardbeg with a smoky sherry flavor are spot on.
The first thing you notice is the deep almost burgundy color. The nose seemed almost all sherry to me. The taste was Ardbeg but mellower, with a surprisingly smooth aftertaste. The peat and heat are both tamped down which I guess makes this more approachable.
All in all, this is a very enjoyable experience. But if you are coming to Ardbeg for the distinctive peat taste, you may be better off with the Ardbeg 10 (especially with the price difference).
