A rare unicorn…this time courtesy of an online tasting event ( which I admit , I dozed off because I had such an early morning start to the workday ). Fortunately before I dozed off, I did try this pour.
I was shocked by it…I guess the bar is set quite high when it’s a unicorn, and to add—-a bottled in bond 24 yr old! That’s about as rare as it gets. But shocked not in a good way…I just expected more.
The best part is the nose. It’s quite delicate considering it’s been in a barrel for 24 yrs. Toasted marshmallow, some orange. Palette is where it fell apart for me. I got all heat to the extent where I couldn’t taste anything else. I was expecting ( and hoping) for more oak. But I got all heat and cinnamon spice. The finish lingers in the heat for a long time.
One man’s opinion —You’re better off buying ECBP for a fraction of the price. This goes for $800-1000…just not worth it. But… I might be alone in that opinion considering the average rating for this is high.

@PBMichiganWolverine, Agreed. Seems that way with a lot of bourbons/ryes these days.
@doneeb i think these Parker’s releases probably hit their high in the first few releases. Now, it’s just the name and price factor
You right. The majority of people singing the praises of this are caught up in the $$ or age statement and not what's actually in the bottle. I love oak and this is the worst Parker's they've put out.
You may have just had an off tasting night too but I would still expect a bottle of that cost to register better than 2.5. You never know as you are mainly paying for the age exclusivity
@jonwilkinson7309 this was my first Parker’s. I do have the Parker’s Promise of Hope somewhere in my stash, which I fortunately bought pre-craze. This weekend, might try the other Parker’s sample I have—the 8 yr Malt. Hopefully better
I've loved the few Parker's I've had the opportunity to try. But bourbon at 24 years...
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington @ContemplativeFox @ghill40509 maybe it was just me, since average scores here seem pretty good. I just thought there’s others that are better for 1/10 the price
@Anthology i didn’t get around to trying the 8yr. The tasting session started 8pm. I had this as the first one ( although they were starting with the regular Heaven Hill). By 8:30 I dozed off.
I felt that way about Masters Keep 17y BiB and that was at $150 a bottle, I can’t imagine 10x that… expectations tend to be the ruin of most things though
Definitely VERY disappointing! Thanks for the heads-up although not sure I would be willing to pay secondary for this. @PBMichiganWolverine what about the PH 8yr malt?
Wow, what a huge disappointment! This Parker's had me the most interested because of the age; with a lot of the younger ones I'm confused as to why they're so exciting that they can demand hundreds of dollars. But how does something - and a bourbon of all things - spend 24 years in the barrel and end so hot and lacking in oak? We're talking new charred oak barrels in the kentucky heat for 24 years!
Woa! I have been trying to happen into one of these at the distillery for years. Even the issue price is quite high. Need to re-assess.
@ctbeck11 nah…$100 for about 9 samples—-of which two were Parker’s Heritage ( 8yr Malt ), and some EU market cask finished Heaven Hills.
Wow, that’s really disappointing. Fortunately, you’re not out of $1000 on a bottle.
