Still Austin The Artist Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Texas, USA
Reviewed April 11, 2026 (edited May 5, 2026)Grassy, some baking spices, a bit sweet, a bit astringent. Not bad, but I won't be looking for another bottle. Rittenhouse has more character and is cheaper. -
Last time I reviewed this, about five years ago, I knocked it for the profile deteriorating over time, probably due to supply constraints and younger whiskey getting shoved in the mix. The profile seemed to vary pretty wildly during those years, to the point where I had two bottles that were so bad they became drain pours. Well, now it's on the shelves more regularly and it seems, at least so far, to be back to form. I've got a handle from Costco for $40, which is already tough to beat at that price point, but it's incredibly sweet and fruity along with the typical baking spices & herbs. It's quite enjoyable neat. Hopefully this trend continues into the future.

Compass Box Hedonism (2025 Release)
Blended Grain — Scotland
Reviewed December 25, 2025 (edited January 17, 2026)This isn't as sweet as I typically think Hedonism is. It's still light and pear-y and easy to drink, but is a bit more meh for me than I was expecting. Maybe I need to spend more time with it, but there doesn't seem to be all that much going on. -
About what you'd expect from Sazerac rye with some added proof. Still baking spice-heavy and a good amount of sweetness from the corn in the mashbill. It makes your tongue a bit warmer, which is welcome, and holds up in a Sazerac (cocktail) better. It's nice that supply is finally catching up to demand with this one and we're getting some interesting variants that are not priced astronomically like everything else seems to be these days.38.0 USD per Bottle

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee , USA
Reviewed December 25, 2025 (edited December 27, 2025)Smells nice, like other toasted whiskies: cinnamon-heavy banana bread, maple sugar, baking spices, and reminds me a bit of mulled wine (which I don't drink, so I don't know why). But the palate falls apart for me. There's some green banana I always get from Jack and a bit of the cinnamon banana bread, but it's dominated by a nail polish remover astringency that lingers and ruins it for me.56.0 USD per Bottle -

Compass Box Hedonism (2024 Release)
Blended Grain — Scotland
Reviewed August 22, 2024 (edited August 29, 2024)Sweet pears & green apples. Quite nice, easy to drink, dope label, unfortunately soured by a heftier price tag coupled with a 700ml bottle.150.0 USD per Bottle -
