After having the initial release of this Dickel BIB series and loving it I had to grab the latest one. So let’s start it by saying I opened this bottle right after I opened a bottle of the Dickel 8 bourbon and tried this back to back against it. So how did it compare? The 13 year was to me leaps and bounds better than the 8 year bourbon. The extra 10 proof points, the extra 5 years, the additional $10 well spent…. Yes it’s much better. When I first tried the 8 the first thing I thought to myself was “if this was a little higher proof and a little more oaky it’d be great”. Voila!
Everyone has a different palette and mine agrees with the flavor profile of Dickel product (I also liked the Willet Pot Still sample I tried🤷🏻♂️). So with that being said, please don’t go out and purchase this based on my very biased review. I will say that this years release of the BIB has been the best to date and I’ve liked all of them.

one review from 100, hope its a good one!
@BDanner I can also definitely see the musty orange (rind) note though!!
@BDanner I keep going back to it and consistently get a very bitter walnut flavor that makes me think it was over oaked. I hear it makes an excellent old fashioned for that reason but neat it just cannot win my heart.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington I've only had one bottle of Drum and it was the higher end (Private Select?). It had this musty orange note that I have yet to get from anything else. Very weird, but it kind of grew on me. That was the only bottle I've seen as NC seems to have discontinued all the Willett Products.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Johnny Drum was a total dud for me too. Seriously disappointing.
I think our taste buds agree - I would be curious to hear your thoughts on any of Willet’s other products. Only Johnny Drum has been a flop for my palate so far.
