The distillery takes a lot of pride into making this whisky as it does. "Nothing added but hard work and determination", "simple, handcrafted, natural", etc. Whisky puritans will surely appreciate this love for authenticity. However, the whisky itself falls a bit short: the sweet and fruity notes are too subtle, and the result is a whisky that is good, but doesn't stand out from other light, sweet whiskies. Regardless of whether that is despite its natural production or because of it, it's a real shame.

Fascinating, although dangerously sweet, Dalwhinnie 15 is one of my old favourites, I'm very careful to keep my open bottle drinking collection balanced each season so I don't end up in that one-note predicament. You do learn more comparing similar whiskies however.
I also have Cardhu 12yo and Dalwhinnie 15yo open at the moment, so perhaps it's just the fact that I'm saturated with this kind of whisky at the moment. I do like it however, perhaps even more than the famous Dalwhinnie 15yo.
Good straightforward note, I'd still like to try Deanston, but I'll be sure to keep my expectations low.
