Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond is an expression from the Old Grand Dad Small Batch line produced by Jim Beam distillery. The whiskey dates back to the 1800’s when Meredith Basil Hayden Sr. was the lead distiller for what has, through the years, become Jim Beam. These whiskies are now considered “the olds”.
The Bourbon
Produced from Jim Beam Distillery in Cleremont Ky, Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond is a high rye bourbon that matches traditional bourbon notes to the tee. The mashbill is comprised of 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley. Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond is bottled at 100 proof/50% ABV. this is a sleeper bourbon at the current price point. Well balanced and very enjoyable.
Color: Straw Gold
Although not very complex, there is quite a bit of depth in flavor. The nose begins with notes of a strong ethanol smell buts fades into sweet candied berries, vanilla, and brown sugar. The palate is well rounded with traditional bourbon notes of cinnamon, baking spices, graham crackers, vanilla, oak tannins, and is somewhat thin. The finish is long and lingers for a while with notes of cinnamon spice.
