Bernheim 7 Year Original Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed
November 30, 2021
Color: an apricot hue almost orange copper
Nose: light and delicate. Some alcohol tannins but not much. A slight toasted bread note. Cinnamon and brown spices are very present. Leather in the back. No real fruitiness to speak of.
Pallet: initially sweet, like a dark fruit jam over a piece of toast. In the middle spiciness makes an appearance with cinnamon and allspice. On the backend a lingering cherry note. The oak and char his present for not overwhelming for a seven year old.
Finish: The finish is medium, quite pleasant and lingering cherry and red fruity note all appears once the spice has dissipated.
Overall very nicely balanced with sweet and spiciness. I was quite surprised at the level of spice with there being 0% rye all must’ve been brought in through maturation in the oak cask. I believe the Mashville on this particular whiskey is 51% wheat, 39% corn, and 10% malted barley.
