Jameson whiskey is the old friend you revisit once in a while for the purpose of nostalgia. I decided to purchase two bottles due to a holiday sale to revisit the experience. I am a huge fan of the brand and the presentation is always welcoming. From the coats of arms with the small boat all the way to the family motto “Sine Metu” . However, the whiskey is a whole different story. I cracked the seal with excitement and unscrewed the top. “Is this the Classic Jamo I’ve had over the years? “ I asked myself. The whiff I got from the smell of opening the bottle is pure disappointment. Pure ethanol/acetone met my nose. Not the bouquet of honey and malt I recalled. There is a faint scent of light fruit and vanilla at the back end , but for an 80 proof bottle of whiskey that should be at the fore front. The nose is 0. I served the whiskey in my Jameson tumbler and that acetone smell still scathed my nose. The glass is filled with 3 oz of e150. I gave it a taste and that same acetone sensation persisted. The sharpness comes through and is lightly followed by light apple/ honey flavor. Nothing else. It is mediocre. I had a few drams more ,but only to try to convince myself to liking it. And I came to the conclusion that Penord Ricard is manufacturing a cheap product to meet the increasing demand for this Irish whiskey. That is what happens when something is too popular. The quality suffers tremendously, unfortunately. Jameson Orange is in the horizon and the future of this brand as a whiskey is looking bleak. They could always offload this stuff in Russia and call it Irish Vodka. Cheers!
