Blackened Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 10, 2022 (edited December 21, 2022)I am no connoisseur of whiskey, but this could be the benchmark for American whiskey. I have been looking to parchase a whiskey of similar style for comparison, but to no avail. It is not Bourbon nor Rye in taste. It is unique , most likely from the brandy cask finish. The batch is 131. The nose is ethanol forward signaling young age whiskey and the brandy cask. Dragon’s fire. In the background there is blackberry pie, with bake spices. It is rye forward. The taste is true to the nose. Cinnamon , allspice and malt. Brandy is present in the taste. There is blackberry jam with rye bread. It is sweet, but dark fruit sweet. Sandman in a glass. The port wine , of course. The finish is medium sized. It leaves you a blackberry taste. Very cool that it is consistent all over. In conclusion, if you like port wine or dark brandy then this whiskey it is for you. The whiskey is very Christmas-y despite the theme of hard rock whiskey. Metallica did a good job in sourcing and blending to “remaster” the genre. Do yourself a favor and seek this whiskey out. You will end up destroying the bottle.40.0 USD per Bottle -
Commentary is subjective, but it should be substantial. Without further a due. The review( the only one). The nose is a tad hot from the young grain whisky. But, after getting through the initial smell, you get soft notes. Which are butter, pound cake and bananas. The taste is what one would describe as unrefined Macallans (perhaps due to the being part of the source.) Freshly made malt cereal with milk and topped with a few slices of bananas. But the bananas are green and the milk is thin. The American oak cask adds that bit of cinnamon spice and turmeric soft taste. Overall, it is not the best whiskey with the best preparation. But it is a wonderful expression of Highland scotch. It is very drinkable. A fine expression of two worlds of whiskey to cater to American and Scots a like ( and between). Definitely purchase to enjoy anytime.26.0 USD per Bottle

Drinking through a snifter glass. I hate to be that guy , but it is heavy in ethanol. It does not smell good at all. Wild Turkey is a respectable distiller, but this is not good on first impression. The taste is tart and approachable. A little thin with the classic bourbon flavors. My final grade is ok. A low quality whiskey disguised as premium. Better bourbons(you know which ones) for the price.33.0 USD per Bottle

Jameson whiskey is the old friend you revisit once in a while for the purpose of nostalgia. I decided to purchase two bottles due to a holiday sale to revisit the experience. I am a huge fan of the brand and the presentation is always welcoming. From the coats of arms with the small boat all the way to the family motto “Sine Metu” . However, the whiskey is a whole different story. I cracked the seal with excitement and unscrewed the top. “Is this the Classic Jamo I’ve had over the years? “ I asked myself. The whiff I got from the smell of opening the bottle is pure disappointment. Pure ethanol/acetone met my nose. Not the bouquet of honey and malt I recalled. There is a faint scent of light fruit and vanilla at the back end , but for an 80 proof bottle of whiskey that should be at the fore front. The nose is 0. I served the whiskey in my Jameson tumbler and that acetone smell still scathed my nose. The glass is filled with 3 oz of e150. I gave it a taste and that same acetone sensation persisted. The sharpness comes through and is lightly followed by light apple/ honey flavor. Nothing else. It is mediocre. I had a few drams more ,but only to try to convince myself to liking it. And I came to the conclusion that Penord Ricard is manufacturing a cheap product to meet the increasing demand for this Irish whiskey. That is what happens when something is too popular. The quality suffers tremendously, unfortunately. Jameson Orange is in the horizon and the future of this brand as a whiskey is looking bleak. They could always offload this stuff in Russia and call it Irish Vodka. Cheers!15.0 USD per Bottle

For Peat's Sake Blended Scotch Whisky (Angus Dundee)
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed January 3, 2022 (edited May 6, 2023)Firstly, I have bias towards this blend due to being from a small scotch blending company. Secondly, it is a very accessible blend in price and stock through wine and spirits merchants. The downside is that the source of the whisky is practically unknown. However, the presentation is somewhat appealing. The name “For Peat’s Sake” is interesting and the label evokes Scottish imagery. It will stand out in the cabinet. Now, the nose is typical of a scotch blend that is strong in Speyside whisky. It is honey/ butterscotch forward. The smoke from the peat shares the same domain as the other scents. It is not an Islay , but the peat smoke is agreeable. The taste is equal to the nose. That is good because it is in no way deceptive. The honey and malty taste come first and are followed by the delicious peat flavor. The peat flavor is smoky like barbecue. The finish is comparable to eating St. Louis bbq ribs. It leaves a pleasant smoky and honey taste. In conclusion, this whisky is a good bargain. It is an everyday sipper. It could also be used for mixing and sharing without guilt. It pairs well with smoky meats and burgers. I recommend it for the smoky profile and the price. If you have access to “For Peat’s Sake”, reach for the bottle. You won’t regret it.17.0 USD per Bottle -
Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed October 29, 2021 (edited December 18, 2021)The Jameson Stout Edition is a level above the standard Irish Whiskey offerings due to being finished in stout barrels. The nose is typically Irish in that it has soft notes of butterscotch and vanilla. But, the stout edition has another layer of richness. It has notes of maple syrup and pecan. The taste is very light, but delicious . It is honey forward with a tad of dark chocolate. Jameson is very easy on the palate. The finish is very soft with minute alcohol burn. It leaves your mouth with a light cocoa/coffee notes. This is perfect to drink neat and enjoy at any time. Excellent offering from Jameson and great Irish whiskey. Slainté.
