My first taster:
Fruity and sour nose, like stone fruits, cantaloupe, oranges and sour cherry beer. Also a little char, lime, maple syrup, oak, ear wax and earth. Very unusual so far. Fruity, sweet and hot on the palate, with caramel, brown sugar, peach, white sugar, cinnamon, cherry, melon, charred wood and more sugar. Potent, artificially sugary sweet and unbelievably fruity and sour on the nose. Very atypical. I’m not so sure about this.
I hated it and gave it a 1.5. I think a lot of that was me though, as of the second go round. While I still agree with a lot of the notes and flavors, I now don’t find the nose to be quite so fruity or sour, and while it is quite sweet, it isn’t quite so artificially so. Now it’s more citrus, leather, cantaloupe, char, vanilla and oak on the nose; cinnamon, wood, white pepper, sugar, char, cherry and cantaloupe on the palate; finishing with red hots and dark chocolate. Still not great, but much better this time.
Drinks very hot for 110 proof and 12 years old.
Odd situation indeed…
