This was a sample shared with me by a friend who shelled out the dough. So I won’t talk about the price. Other than to say it’s too damned high. Sadly I don’t see this trend reversing anytime soon.
Strong notes of lemon, followed by yoghurt funk and mild peat and smoke. It’s very balanced and easy to drink. Maybe it’s the extra fermentation or 13 years in the cask but the smoke and peat come on slowly and in moderation. Kind of a muted Ardbeg but enjoyable for all that.
Since i didn’t buy it I’m giving it a 4. It was enjoyable and I wanted more of it. Not at $200 though. If I’d paid for it I might dock it .25-.5.

@Scott_E me too—- I don’t bother with their one off specialty stuff. It’s NAS that’s overpriced, with over-hype marketing. Case and point — their 2022 Feis Ile is a hyped up NAS with some bullshit backstory, and retailers charging $399.
@PBMichiganWolverine @ngolofane As for Ardbeg, the specialty stuff is no longer on my radar. I will stick to the core if I want Ardbeg. As far as purchasing in general, my searches and payouts has significantly dwindled. And like those on fixed incomes, I find myself more regularly drinking more moderately priced whisky like Rittenhouse or 12 Year Old scotches.
@ngolofane sadly, I think you’re right. I don’t see the trend reversing anytime soon…but what I’m thinking (or hoping) will happen is that the rising cost of goods due to inflation will force folks pass over discretionary items like these, making the prices come down. There’s a certain band this won’t impact, like the higher income folks, but for others, it may. That’s my theory anyway….
