Hand selected single barrel pick from Jax liquors in Chattanooga Tennessee.
Sticks quite tightly to the glass. Only a few slow appearing legs.
Nose is a little hot, shows plenty of rye, and quite a bit of barrel for something with a 3-year age statement.
Creme brulee, green apple, flaked barley or rye from the bulk bins at the co-op, and a faint hint of eucalyptus come out through plenty of fresh hewn white oak.
Front is initially sweet, but the heat builds and moves quickly to the barrel and the rye spice. The early part of the finish is almost bitter and woody before trailing off with caramel, vanilla, clove and cacao
It is soft on the palate, although a bit thin. The mouthfeel and the finish improve nicely with a bit of water... It brings out a good bit more sweetness, and stretches out the sip a bit.
At 40 bucks, I can't be disappointed in this at all. It is an excellent value. That said, it's young, and that's definitely apparent... they're doing something right though, and I'm willing to stay tuned
I'll try it in an old fashioned, for sure.
