Traveller Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed February 18, 2024 (edited February 19, 2024)Tarnished brass in color, bright and vibrant. Runs off the glass fairly quickly, but leaves a sticky ring behind. The nose is pretty easy going, with plenty of corn, a bit of caramel, and leather. I don't think I use that descriptor often, but it seems to fit the bill here. Soft on the palate, there's an initial sweetness that seems to add to that. The mid palette is spicy and quite warm and it seems like that might take over, but it yields to a pleasant light cream corn note and sawdust before bringing back in bits of vanilla. There's something else going on under the radar here. Maybe milk chocolate covered peanuts? There's some baking spice notes that pop up after the oak dominated finish starts to fade Pretty well balanced and very easy to drink. Certainly nothing to write home about, but it's not disappointing, especially for the price tag! -
High West Campfire (2023 Release)
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed February 11, 2024 (edited February 12, 2024)Dark copper in color, runs off the glass fairly quickly but leaves a nice sheet. Nose fits the lable. Its smoky with caramel and sweet malty notes. A bit of barn funk and wafts of vanilla frosting. It tastes.like a campfire too. But in the most delicious way. It's soft and silky on the palate and Sweet enough to balance out the smokiess. It's different, and delicious! -
Smoke Wagon Uncut the Younger
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed November 26, 2023 (edited November 30, 2023)Insanely viscous. Hung on the glass for a minute before leaving a leg. Spring time honey in color. Nose is spiced fruit cake, orange peel, green apple, a hint of wintergreen. Lots going on there. Hot on the palate almost immediately, and builds with the proof and the cinnamon magnifying the heat. This is nearly an analgesic. Burnt caramel and a dry spicy woodiness in the back end. Leaves thoughts of golden raisins, too. Its got plenty of complexity, but its youth is obvious. Lacks subtlety and nuance. Makes an outstanding old fashioned. -
Yellowstone Hand Picked Collection Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 8, 2023 (edited October 9, 2023)Hickory tree pick 2022 Dark straw in color with a bit of worn brass. Sticks quite tight to the glass for the proof. Toast, caramel, some ripe cooked fruits and a pleasant nuttiness and a waft of barn must. Bountiful warmth via the strength and a growing spicy warmth throughout the mouth and chest. The finish is medium length and leaves a delicious tart fruit/caramel/burnt sugar coating. Opens and softens a bit with a few drops of water. I really like this, and it may be one of my favorite Yellowstone offerings to date. Clearly nailed a great barrel here! -
Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Wyoming, USA
Reviewed September 30, 2023 (edited October 1, 2023)Golden straw in color, The legs emerge slowly and leave a nice thick sheet on the glass. It's a little green on the nose, light caramel, bulk grains and toast with a perfumey note Soft on the palate, its sweet and lightly fruity up front, followed by a nice sustained vanilla presence, then citrus peel, and a faint herbal note. A short - medium finish, it is delightfully drinkable. Its nothing super special, yet it stands out for drinkability! -
Little Book Chapter 6: To the Finish
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 29, 2023Bright and vibrant, lightly tarnished brass in color. Nose is loades with layers of smoke. Its not all smoke, and not totally overwhelming though. Sifting through the smoke, there's definitely hints of apple hand pies and ripe stone fruit and something earthy/herbal going on. Its loosened up a little with a few drops of water, yet retains a good deal of the heat that rises shortly after a sip and lasts well into the finish. There's a subtle and wonderful malt character that brings me back for another taste It's really a quality product and enjoyable... the nose and flavor profile are just not what im looking for if i'm going to pony up the cash. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 14, 2023 (edited September 29, 2023)Deep, rich, caramel color. Runs off the glass quickly, for sure. Nose is big and barrelly. Notes of ripe fruit mingle with the charred oak, vanilla, brown sugar, and some baking spices. Some burnt sugar and malty sweet notes in there, too. Black cherry is what jumps out the glass. Soft on the palate for the proof, its got a backbone of sweetness that sticks in all the way through the middle of the very long finish. This one definitely does not let me down. Its big, complex, and is great with a cube, a few drops of water, or an incredible old fashioned. -
The Burning Chair Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in) California, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2023 (edited August 28, 2023)A light golden straw in color, moderate amount of legs and a fairly thick sheet left behind. The nose is light, with Bartlett pear, corn flakes and biscuit mix. My first thought after tasting it is that it's very well balanced and easy to drink for a 4-year-old product. Brach's caramels or Werther's candies come to mind, as well as the jelly packets from middle school. It's a short-medium finish, that lacks complexity but not dimension. This is a surprise and has exceeded my expectations. -

Like lemon pound cake and shortbread cookies -
Uncle Nearest Straight Rye
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed August 20, 2023 (edited September 9, 2023)Quite light in color. Looks like a mason jar of yellow popcorn seeds. Has a wonderful sweet nose of creamed corn and cooked apples with cinnamon and a bit of barn must. For a ride, this is extremely pronounced with corn all over. It's soft and sweet up front, and the creamed corn noted on the nose definitely comes through on the front, stays in the mid palate and leans into the finish. Trails off with vanilla and heath bars accented by cinnamon, clove and baking cacao. A bit of tartness like a granny smith apple pie drizzled with caramel shows up on the finish, reminding that it actually is a rye.
