I came into my tasting skeptical and wanted to dislike this because of the annoying hype that comes with the Kentucky hand grenade. Unfortunately, I quite liked it and was impressed by the uniqueness.
Nose: Generally unimpressed with the nose. Light apple, tart, vanilla, oaky, sweetness.
Palate: I know this is a Kentucky bourbon, but I’m transported to a spiced apple juice roadside stand in Wenatchee national forest in Washington state. There’s cherry, chocolatey orange, and a hint of vanilla, but the overwhelming feeling is a nicely spiced (and spiked) apple juice from the PNW. Mouthfeel is oily.
Finish: some spice as expected, but gentle short. It’s not boring, but a shorter finish.
I can see why folks like this and count me in that group. It’s a savory bourbon, and not overly sweet, so my scotch loving heart can connect with this.
