Second review, same bottle. The last glass is just the same as the first. Many months and lots air have not changed this one.
This is straight up black magic. I am not sure what Willet is doing, but they better guard their secrets better than Coke guards their recipe.
I am going to KY soon. Mostly for some family rest and relaxation. But on the way back we are doing the tasting tour at Willet. Hopefully some of this is in stock and we get to taste a few more family estate bottles.

Completely agree. I've got a few bottles of this from different years and it's always blown me away. I'm not a fan of Willet's pot still bourbon, though. But as you say--whatever they're doing with the rye should be kept secret! I do recall my first-ever taste of this because I was greeted with banana--I'm not talking a "hmm, tropical fruit, I'll call it banana" but instead serious banana. And it was a good thing.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Awesome! Staying right by Michters. I will stop by their gift shop - but even then I realize it is a long shot. Four Roses distillery will have to wait till the next trip (looks like a cool tour). Just getting the Willet Rye will be a win.
@angstrom scratch that, Michters CS - typically allocated or possibly the distillery gift shop. Even their sour mash is limit 1 most places (if they have it).
@angstrom best bet for 4R SBBS is the distillery gift shop when they open at 9am. Makers CS should be on most local shelves.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Excited to hear that! Any chance 4R SBCS picks are plentiful in KY? Or Michters Cask Strength? Those are two other favorites that I am hoping are not on the list of one-in-a-million chance of finding.
@LouisianaLonghorn I am not a rye guy either. And that is after trying many, many different bottles. But this Willet scratches a unique itch for me. I figured the profile was love-it-or-hate-it. Frankly, I am surprised so many love it.
I paid $95 for this a few years back. It was good but not $95 good to me, but I also am not the biggest rye fan.
The 4y rye is all over the place and generally $65 or less
