The Machir Bay starts with familiar wafts of Islay peat smoke and adds a pleasant aroma of sweet, soft fruit for a surprisingly good balance.
Although the smoke is not as intense as some of its Islay big brothers, it's no pipsqueak either. In fact the palate is not as balanced as the nose. The smoke is the star here, with the fruit notes coming through as a close second. Overall it's a pretty satisfying dram with a decently refined dual chorus.
