Rich and fruity on the nose, with earth, mint, cooked agave, grilled pineapple and wood, but also plenty of mineral stone and char. Actual smoke notes are relatively light, and the Sauvignon Blanc is discernible but just barely.
On the palate it’s mineral and char heavy. There is peppery spice throughout, and otherwise woodsmoke, mint, ash, green agave, and hints of earth.
I don’t get any real heat, but the spiciness lingers through the concrete and charred wood finish.
Ultimately I like it. It isn’t as sweet or as smoky or as rich as many good jovens, but it’s good in its own way.
