The name SAGATIBA comes from the combination of the words SAGA (means "search" in Nordic culture) and TIBA (word TUPI, Brazilian indigenous tribe, which means "infinite"). Produced in São Paulo since 2004, it was created by Marcos de Moraes, son of the former soy king Olacyr de Moraes, who hired the London advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi to promote the drink in magazines such as Vanity Fair and Esquire, and in European bars and restaurants. At first, the brand was present in England, Holland and Italy and in 2 years it was already selling 800 thousand bottles, half to the European market. It is sold exclusively on all 15 ships in the Princess Cruise network around the world. In 2016 it was bought for US$ 26 million by the traditional Italian group Campari from Milan. Despite not being an artisanal cachaça (made in a copper still) but an industrial cachaça (stainless steel columns), through multi-distillation generating a light cachaça, mild aromas and flavors (alcohol content of 38%), sweet and versatile , ideal for cocktails such as the "caipirinha". Another novelty of SAGATIBA CRISTALINA is the addition of water at the beginning of distillation, which preserves the density of the product, and not at the end as the cachaça industry normally does. The distillation heating system is indirect by steam, which maintains the original characteristics of the sugarcane, such as aroma and flavor. At the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) in Chicago, one of the most important alcoholic beverage analysis institutes in the world, SAGATIBA PRECIOSA was the only cachaça in the world to win the platinum medal of the entity and to integrate its maximum category, the Superlative Category . She obtained 96 points on a scale ranging from 0 to 100, with 98 being the highest score achieved by a distillate to date. ● Origin: Brazil ● Release: 2004 ● Creator: Marcos de Moraes ● Headquarters: São Paulo ● Brand owner: Gruppo Campari ● Publicly traded: No ● Global presence: 40 countries ● Largest markets: Brazil, England and Germany ● Employees: + 100 ● Segment: Alcoholic beverages ● Main products: Cachaças ● Icons: The bottle ● Website: www.sagatiba.com.br
