I'm just starting my journey with rum (inspired by binge watching Death in Paradise). So far I've only tried a few - Kraken, Sailor Jerry's, Captain Morgan - and certainly no high end ones yet. The bottle sold in March of 2023 is significantly different than the one pictured, so it's likely from a different source. Which may be why I found it to hold its own with the others I've tried so far, and to be perfectly palatable sipped neat. Or Daniel, above, may just have had a lot more top shelf rum and have a higher bar! I look forward to expanding my palate.
