The Laphroaig PX Cask is triple matured, i.e. the spirit is sequentially matured, first in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, then quarter casks made from the same barrel type, and finally in European oak Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. Nose: definitely sherry forward with rich, dense fruits (dates and raisins) and minimal peat and smoke Palate: intense peat with a sherry kick; somewhat dry and astringent, iodine and ash Finish: longish with slowly decaying sweetness, an astringency at the back of the mouth persists
