Maker's Mark 101
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Color: Medium rusty amber.
Nose: Sweet with caramel and oak.
Palate: The sweetness of caramel and the oak carries over from the nose. Syrupy mouth feel. Tingly tongue and a nice mild chest hug. I want to say it's spicy, but it's not really. Whereas I've had Wheaters in the past that have left me thinking, "Huh?", the wheatiness really stands out with this one.
Finish: Medium. Buttery with what I detect as apples. Yum.
I've had Maker's flagship, 46, and some FAEs, BRTs and BEPs. I've enjoyed each of them very much. But I think this 101 has just moved ahead of the pack, and I'd buy this again before I revist any of the others — and not just because it's more readily available than the aforementioned Limited Editions.

@Ctrexman Definitely a good deal. I should have grabbed a bottle a long time ago, but as you know, it's easy to get distracted by limited editions and other hard-to-find bottles.
wheated goodness. I have not had this one yet but it seems like a great bargain as is most of the MM line
@Bourbonk I enjoy the cask strength in both, and they usually clock in at an approachable 108-112 range.
@BDanner I'm with you on that. I think I'm done with the Wood experiments... gonna stick to the standard and this 101. I've not had Cask Strength yet, however.
@Cornmuse I agree. I'm thinking of foregoing future wood stave releases, and sticking to the "entry level" and this 101 for my Maker's fix.
MM101 is the essence of what Maker's is supposed to be. It's my favorite expression from this distiller.
I think I said in my review that MM needed to stop monkeying around with 8 million stave combinations , etc. and stick to the Standard and 46 (with a cask strength in both), the 101, and add a Single Barrel or Aged Stated offering. This would give them one of the strongest lineups on the bourbon aisle and highlight everything good about Makers.
