Talisker 25. I am a sucker for Talisker, the 10 is a mainstay in m collection, the 18 is amazing, and the 25....goddamnit I want more.
On the nose you get a waft of sea air, clear, bit salty, bit briney. There is some moss, in the morning when everything is a bit wet. Some vanilla and oak are present, barely but they are there.
Some honey sweetness up front on the taste provides a solid base for all the salt, brine, ham and herbal notes to stand on. Liquid BBQ, steaks, ribs, all the good stuff. And surprisingly mild. Guess that 25 years in a barrel will do that to you.
The aftertaste is sweet and briney and lasts for quite a bit. Very nice, something to enjoy on a cold evening.
The only thing that prevents this from the full 5/5 is that there could be a bit more intensity for my taste, but it is close to perfection. Not too peaty, not too friendly or sweet, just complex enough to dive into and relax. Just a bit out of my price class, but the 18 is looking more and more enticing.
Cheers.

@Reverend357 Cheapest one I found is 99 €. https://whiskyagents.com/bunnahabhain-12-jahre-cask-strength-2022/
@Slainte-Mhath Interesting, the 2022 is even cheaper than the 23 at around 90€. now if I could find one in stock that would help XD
@Reverend357 98 bucks is not too bad for the Bunnahabhain 12 CS. Try to get the 2022 Edition, it's more sherry and got significantly better ratings than the 2021 and 2023 version. A great treat for Christmas, and remember: the best presents come from yourself...
@Slainte-Mhath Bunna Cask Strength sounds interesting. Cheapest I found so far is 98 bucks, average about 115-125. I probably should slow down with the shopping, but screw it XD just bought pipe tobacco for 200 bucks and 2 whisky themed pipes (Rattray's Slainte and Distillery...couldn't resist). Kinda looking forward to tomorrow tho, Redbreast 21. Curious how it will stack up agaisnt the 12.
@Reverend357 Hibiki 17 is pretty decent, but not worth 300 bucks. I bought a bag of miniatures in Japan in 2016, still have half a dozen or so. They were 700 yen at the time. Couldn't resist on the Hibiki 21, though. I stopped buying Highland Park when this Viking madness started. You are located in Austria? See if you can get the 2022 version of Bunnahabhain Cask Strength (don't pay more than 95 €), it's the best new release I have seen in the past 3 years. Finished a bottle in summer und bought another 5 bottles for later. Amazing value!
@Slainte-Mhath yeah, the price hurts. I still regret not getting a bottle of Hibiki 17 when it was like 300 bucks...now it is closer to a grand. The Talisker 18 is already 200 bucks too....that sucks. I still have an unopened bottle of the Highland Park 18 before they did the viking theme. Not something I would buy today...and my most expensive bottle was a present from my uncle when we were in London....Cadenhead Glenrothes-Glenlivet 23 Year old....still unopened. For now. ;)
@Reverend357 Great pick, I'm almost jealous. I wish I had drams of that caliber in my calendar. But the price of these bottles... nope. I would even consider the 18 at today's prices.
