Balcones Texas 1 Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA

Balcones, Westland and countless craft distilleries - Scotch is facing some stiff competition as American single malt rises as a category. Notes of cherries, dates and cocoa reach my nose, followed by toasted oak, baking spices and fresh mint. Rich, intense and juicy, the palate carries on with burnt sugar, stewed fruits and roasted nuts. Water brings out aromatic and dryer flavors, and I get dark chocolate, orange zest and cinnamon. The prolonged finish evolves with maple syrup, barrel char and licorice. Only 4 years in the Texas heat, this Balcones is amazing.

@Richard-Davenport You seem to have tasted most batches of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof: what are the batches to look out for? I bought A123 and C922, while C923 is unavailable in Europe (only as 75 cl). Any other recent batch that is worth buying?
Additional comment: The selection of great bourbon, rye and American single malt is somewhat limited in Europe, but I am trying be less focussed on Scotch this year. Thanks to a bag of samples from @PBMichiganWolverine, I have tasted some great spirits from the US this year. If you have recommendations, please let me know!
