Rye — Texas, USA

Received a sample from a friend.
Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes.
Color: Medium-dark amber.
Nose: Lots of earthy and vegetal notes with some mint.
Palate: Baking spice and clove.
Finish: Long length with medium heat.
Splash: A spicy minty note appears.
Overall: 8/10 - I have had some bad experiences with Texas whiskey, but I can't find a fault here. It's definitely an above average rye, and the price doesn't break the bank. Still I wonder what more time in oak could have accomplished.
