Glengoyne 20 Year Old 1999 Single Cask (Master of Malt) / 30ml sample / 50.5% ABV
Nose: Medium volatile, dried figs, cherries, honey, leather, walnuts, vanilla, caramel.
Palate: Oily, orange jam, dark chocolate, blackcurrants, cloves, almonds, quite peppery with plenty of tannins.
Finish: Oak, apricots, dried plums, spicy notes, bitterness, cocoa, dark chocolate.
Score: 89/100
Single cask, likely from an unspecified Sherry cask, possibly second-fill at most, as suggested by the color and the lack of strong Sherry cask dominance over the distillate. This is an elegant, rich whisky with excellent balance between the sweetness of Sherry and the qualities of a superb distillate. Hence my high score.
