There are few white rums that I would reach for to drink neat, but Mount Gay silver is one that actually holds up quite well. It also is relatively cheap and while it isn't a Rhum Agricole, it does taste pretty close to one.
On the nose I get banana and tropical fruit. The palate is grassy (goes back to the Rhum Agricole part above), with a good amount of spice. The finish is pretty short, but only a slight bit of burn going down.
If I hadn't known what I was pouring, I probably would have thought this was Barbancourt. They have very similar taste profiles from what I remember. I still like Barbancourts a bit better, but they are quite similar. I would recommend this white rum, just not as much as I recommend Privateer, Havana Club or the aforementioned Barbancourt.
