The nose starts off bright and spicy with oak, dried flowers, ripe fruit, brown sugar and faint hints of molasses sweetness. It is quite full, but also shows a bit of youth. As it breathes, there is a certain graininess that comes out, but isn't too distracting.
The palate is starts smooth and dry before giving way to grain and pepper that fills the mouth. The youth is definitely on display here, but soon notes of vanilla and brown sugar come in for backup, as does dried flowers.
The finish is medium long and youthful, with lingering grain, spice and oak. Everything else is a bit too far in the background to standout. One thing this bottle suffers from is that it doesn't survive too long being open. At first open, the grain wasn't as evident. Getting towards the end after only a few months open it seems to not survive. In all, Rock Town makes outstanding whiskey and the experience you get hand filling your own bottle is very worth it.
