The nose starts with a burst of floral rye spice, creamy oak and vanilla, baking spices, molasses and cooked brown sugar. It comes off as quite the dessert in a glass, waiting to be dived in to. The palate is immediately dry and spicy with a burst of pepper, cinnamon and cherry syrup. The rye turns more earthy and is joined by astringent oak. It packs quite the deceiving punch, but ticks all the boxes of a delicious rye. It feels much higher than its proof, which isnt a complaint. It is a great sipper, something to be slowly enjoyed or else it quickly becomes overwhelming. The finish is long and spicy, with lingering rye, cherry and astringent oak. It is a bold finish that definitely keeps you satisfied till the next sip.

This is a blend consisting of 60% straight rye whiskey, 30% XO Calvados, and then 10% are Argmagnac bourbon barrel finish consisting of 1979 and 1996 vintages. On paper a lot going on with this it's not technically whiskey as there is Armagnac in it. The nose is pleasantly smooth, there is distinct rye spice immediately available and at the same time, the Armagnac sweetness immediately comes through. It is very distinct what is going on with this whiskey, you might think it is simply a matter of a barrel finish but the pallet will give up all of its secrets. It is a perfect marriage of whiskey and fermented wine, which is one of the absolute best pairings in the spirits world. The palate is somewhat dry yet full-bodied and chewy. Rye spice immediately coats the mouth all the way into the corners, as a distinct sweetness keeps it nicely balanced. No one flavor is overpowering, rather it is all in wonderful balance. Soft, creamy notes of oak and vanilla present themselves but the real Hallmark of this is it's simplicity. There's not a hundred flavor profiles to explore, instead it's best summed up as rye and Armagnac. As simple as that. You get a great marriage of the two where you get to experience the earthy spiciness of the rye and the smooth sweetness of the Armagnac, blended together. The finish is long, smooth and creamy. The rye and rhe Armagnac really meld together in the end for quite the experience. It drinks as easily as water and is a great example of a perfect coming together.

Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 17, 2024 (edited September 18, 2024)The nose is peaty yet sweet with creamy oak. Touches of leather, smoke and brine follow. It's pretty typical Ardbeg, but with more subtlety and smoothness. The palate is light As it starts with a burst of pepper that gives way to the mouth being filled with peat, smoke, leather and creamy oak. It is fairly simple and straightforward, and exceptionally easy to sip. The finish is medium long and peppery with a lingering creamy oak. The barrel finishing doesn't exactly add much in the way of sweetness, but rather adds smoothness. It could maybe stand to be a bit more pronounced however that doesn't take away from how simplistically tasty this is. -

Holladay 6 Year Soft Red Wheat Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Missouri, USA
Reviewed August 20, 2024 (edited August 22, 2024)The nose is pleasantly gentle with a wonderful mix of oak and ripe fruit, with just a touch of dried flowers alongside it. Hints of vanilla and molasses slowly make their way out as it takes on notes of sweet, fruity cake. The palate is somewhat chewy fills the mouth to the corners with sharp oak, fruit and a mild burst of pepper. Vanilla and some mild baking spices follow, while the sweetness is definitely tamed and not as forward as on the nose. This is very full bodied and rich, without being complex. The finish is medium with lingering spice and stays somewhat chewy as the rest of the palate fades. It almost fades too quick which really holds this back a bit. It is otherwise a fantastic whiskey.70.0 USD per Bottle
