Hartman's Experimental Series 6 (Straight bourbon finished in French cerise liqueur barrel)
Bourbon — New York, USA
Reviewed December 21, 2024The nose starts with charred oak, spicy cherry, fruit sweetness, vanilla and touches of rye spice bouncing it out. It is a very pleasant blend of bourbon and cherry coming together very well to compliment each other. The palate is gentle and smooth with a great mix of chart oak and spicy cherry, all sticking mostly to the front of the mouth. Vanilla and rye spice come in behind all in equal quantities. The flavor is indeed good but could probably benefit from being at a higher proof, as things come off as maybe a bit 2 mild. The finish is medium and leaves the mouth tingling as chart oak and spicy cherry fade away. -
Maker's Mark Private Selection (The Mystery Machine Rides Again Loch & K(e)y)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 20, 2024The nose is immediately creamy, with charred oak, vanilla, a bit of caramel, ripe fruit and some banana. It absolutely does not give away it's proof, rather comes off much gentler than you might think. It is absolutely incredible on the nose hopefully leading to an even better experience while tasting. The palate is slightly dry yet rich, starting with intense burst of baking spices followed by charred oak and vanilla that fill the mouth. Fruit, banana and burnt caramel are further in the background adding some nice nuances to explore. The stave combination is a mystery however, you get a great balance of bold flavors and some finer details to explore with each sip. Finish is medium long and spicy, leaving the mouth tingling as charred oak fades. -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 19, 2024 (edited December 20, 2024)The nose is so somewhat hot, full of charred oak, smoke, dark chocolate, and touches of vanilla and molasses. It is very full-bodied and unmistakably wheated, giving you a very tempting invitation. The proof immediately comes across but that is not a distraction whatsoever. The palate is semi-dry and chewy, and starts with a burst of cinnamon, followed by charred oak in just a little bit of cherry syrup. The flavors all pretty much meld together, coming across as slightly astringent. But there is flavor there to discover with each sip in each chew. The finish is long, spicy and hot. The spice lingers and lingers, as the oaky and astringent notes very slowly fade. -
The nose is an immediate burst of charred oak, smoke, earthy rye spice, dried flowers and a hint of vanilla. It is quite deep, not as sweet as you might expect from Buffalo Trace. As it breathes, it quickly opens up into those more sweeter notes, yet it gives you some intrigue as to how it might taste. The palate It's maybe too gentle, it comes across with oak, dried flowers and hint of rye. It does fall a little flat on the pallet but it does take the boxes of what you might expect from this. Finish is medium at best with all the flavors coming together to fade away a bit too quickly.

The nose is gentle but starts with charred oak, vanilla, fruity rye spice and a bit of citrus. Sweeter notes of brown sugar in molasses are faint in the background, but definitely there. This comes across as very cake-like and very inviting to take a sip of. The palate is gentle, smooth and like a cloud of flavor. You are greeted with charred oak, sweet vanilla and floral rye spice. Is very easy to drink, hitting all of her usual Buffalo Trace notes but with a bit more emphasis on the vanilla. The finish is surprisingly long with a tingling pepperiness, as charred oak takes its time to fade.

Starlight Single Barrel Rye Old Rickhouse (Roc Elite murder hornets)
Rye — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 13, 2024 (edited December 14, 2024)The nose starts with a rich mix of chardoke, earthy rye spice, vanilla, brown sugar, and slight touches of molasses and dried flowers. It definitely comes across older than just 4 and 1/2 years, offering a very full experience before you've even taken your first sip. The palate is intense, dry and chewy. It starts with an incredible burst spice that completely engulfs the mouth As charred oak comes in behind it. The smoother notes are indeed there but they are quite far in the background. That's not to say that's a bad thing, as this is a rye whiskey and the rye is very dominant and very forward. So as a straight to the point rye whiskey this one hits pretty hard in the best way possible. The finish is medium to medium long, there is a lingering spice that keeps the mouth pretty tingly, but the whole thing goes away quicker than you would think. Usually you would count this against the entire experience, but for something to be so intense but not making you feel like you need a minute to recover, that's actually kind of nice. This is a good one, pretty special in the world of rye whiskey as again, this punches above its weight in every aspect. When it comes to its price point And especially the fact it's only four and a half years old is pretty remarkable. This will be sorely missed when it's gone. -
Starlight Single Barrel Bourbon finished in VDN barrels (Roc Elite)
Bourbon — Indiana , USA
Reviewed December 13, 2024 (edited December 14, 2024)The nose starts with a beautiful mix of charred oak and citrus, backed up with some gentle earthy rye spice. Soft notes of vanilla and brown sugar follow, rounding out a relatively simple nose yet very inviting. The palate is dry, Rich and fruity, with a little bit of a chew. It fills the mouth with charred oak and citrus as a burst of pepper quickly follows. As it breathes it gets a little spicier but still in a good compliment to the oak and the citrus. This is a fairly simple whiskey yet that is also what makes it so delicious. The orange citrus is a great compliment to bourbon, with a two flavor profiles mashing very well. This whiskey is full of traditional bourbon notes with citrus on top. It doesn't need to be complicated, as Starlight already produces incredible bourbon at its age and price point, all it takes is a little extra to really make it a treat. The finish is medium long and chewy, with wonderful lingering notes of oak in citrus, while the pepperiness fades. -
Whiskey Del Bac Dorado Mesquite Smoked Single Malt
American Single Malt — Arizona, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2024 (edited December 13, 2024)The nose is a wonderful mix of being fruity, oaky, smokey and sweet of vanilla. It is very enticing, as it is clearly malt whiskey but with some unique qualities. There is a bit of leather and a bit of brine, but with each visit you can keep pulling out something different. It ends up coming across as a rich dessert. The palate is somewhat rich but very chewy, that starts out with being fruity, oaky and smokey, but then transforms into being very chewy and full of vanilla, brine, smoke and some delicious sweetness. The finish is long and chewy, I has the whole palate comes together to fade very nicely which doesn't happen too often. Usually there is a dominant flavor that lingers on the palate however, with this the whole thing hangs out and takes its time. This is wonderful and a lovely experience for American single malt whiskey. In this case, the fewer the words the better about this, because it's simply good. -
Jim Beam Winter Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2024 (edited December 13, 2024)The nose is very gentle with charred oak, cinnamon, floral rye spice, molasses and some vanilla to round it all out. The nose is quite gentle and softer than you would like, considering how much the flavor profile is promoted. It comes off as a little thin and maybe not all that much different from your usual Jim Beam. The palate is too soft, but fills the mouth with that charred oak cinnamon floral rye and vanilla that you got on the nose. Except it's not as bold or as full as you would want in order for this to really make an impression. It is indeed great to sip on, but it is too easy going with the flavors that it has on hand. You take a sip, you know what you're tasting and then you move on. It is certainly disappointing if they're going to promote certain flavors and then it only comes across as a gentle touch rather than a full-on punch of flavor. The finish is medium a little spicy with lingering cinnamon while charred oak fades quickly. The cinnamon does last for a decent amount of time, but that's it. Everything else is very much quickly gone. A little disappointing, but enjoyable for a drink that you just don't want to think about And sometimes that's the perfect drink. -
Sagamore Spirit Duchess Finish Rye (Roc Elite finished in ginger mead barrels)
Rye — Indiana and Maryland, USA
Reviewed December 9, 2024 (edited December 10, 2024)The nose starts off sweet yet a little spicy. You definitely do get hints of ginger mixed with oak. There is also a little bit of a vanilla in brown sugar sweetness. The rye spiciness is very discreet and gentle in this, you can get the impression that it's there but in quantities that compliment the other notes rather than overpowering it with a burst of rye immediately upfront. The palate is slightly dry yet rich in chewy. Ginger and rye spice immediately flood the mouth all the way to the corners. They are excellent and complimenting each other; two flavors that absolutely go wonderful together. There are notes of oak with sweeter notes of vanilla, brown sugar and mead. The finish is long, slightly spicy and chewy. It is absolutely beautiful to savor after every sip. What you get on the palate exactly matches what you taste and the flavors linger and linger and leave you wanting another sip.
