First sniff, this one smells grown. Oak, caramel, vanilla, and that calm, old whiskey confidence. Nothing sharp, nothing weird. Just smells like it’s been doing this a long time and doesn’t need to prove it. First sip is smooth and loaded. Caramel and vanilla right up front, dark sweetness, oak right where it should be. It drinks easy for the proof. Then the finish shows up and kinda clocks out early. It’s good just softer than I wanted. I wanted a little more punch at the end. This pairs great with something flavorful but not overpowering. A Black Label Royalty fits - rich, dark, edgy, and it fills in that finish the bourbon leaves you wanting. Really solid combo. Bottom line, Hooter Young Jack Carr Warrior Proof Special 16 Year Reserve is mature, smooth, and very enjoyable. Just wish the finish hit a little harder to really lock it in.
