Old Forester 1924

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Wow what a treat. OF 1924 has been a once a year release since 2024 but I haven't tried it until now - this is the 2026 release. Honestly, all I've heard about 1924 in the past is literally nonstop complaining about the $115 price, which is odd when no one complains that Birthday Bourbon costs about $500 a bottle. It seems like a heck of a lot of reviewers in 2024 let the perceived high price govern their review and dismissed it. I'm glad I didn't listen. Really briefly, this product is somewhat unique in that it uses the old Early Times mash bill instead of the normal OF mash bill, so essentially lower rye than normal. This mash bill is also used to produce King of Kentucky which I've never tried but only heard great things about. Those are older and stronger, but they cost thousands - and again I don't hear any complaining about that. But enough about price and perception, what is it like? The nose on my fresh crack is oak and leather, a bit subdued. But the palate - my goodness. It is rich and rounded, with the previously mentioned oak and leather, some caramel and some baking spices. But the big pop is from a mix of juicy citrus fruits such as orange and stone fruits such as peach. It is absolutely delicious and pretty unique for an older bourbon to have this juicy fruit profile. The fruit lasts through the finish, which lingers with fruit and the return of the baking spices. I'm extremely pleased with this bottle and bought a backup. If you have the means and you've been holding fire on this based on the general narrative from 2024, I'd say to give it a try for sure. Easily my favorite bourbon from the last few years. The drop of these bottles just happened a week or two ago so now is the time to strike.

Seems like the tide has really turned on this bottle, particularly this 2026 release. Seeing a lot of good reviews of this release in particular.

Agree with you on all points. Nice review. This bottle has been consistent for me so I’d say grab it again next year.

100%. I’ve enjoyed all the releases and I agree with you the 2026 is great. So many complaints about price point yet it’s gone in a blink every year. Hmmm
